Artwork Guidelines

Artwork Guidelines

Effective Date: 26 June 2026

At Printie, we want every printed packaging order to achieve the highest possible quality.

This Artwork Guidelines document explains how customers should prepare and submit artwork files for production.

Following these guidelines helps prevent delays, unexpected results and production issues.

Printie is a trading name of BRU Print and Packaging Limited.

1. Before Submitting Artwork

Before sending artwork, please confirm that you have checked:

  • product dimensions;
  • artwork size;
  • colours;
  • text;
  • images;
  • logos;
  • finishing requirements;
  • placement of design elements.

Once artwork has been approved, production will begin based on the approved files.

2. Accepted File Formats

We recommend submitting artwork in:

Preferred formats:

  • PDF (recommended)
  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)
  • EPS
  • SVG

Other formats may be accepted, but may require additional preparation.

Not recommended:

  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • Word documents
  • PowerPoint files
  • screenshots

3. Colour Requirements

CMYK Colour Mode

All artwork should ideally be supplied in:

CMYK colour mode

(Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black)

RGB colours used for screens and websites may appear different when printed.

Pantone Colours

For customers requiring specific brand colours, Pantone colour matching may be available depending on:

  • product;
  • material;
  • printing method;
  • production process.

Please discuss Pantone requirements before production.

4. Resolution Requirements

Images should be supplied at:

300 DPI minimum

Low-resolution images may appear:

  • blurry;
  • pixelated;
  • lower quality.

Printie is not responsible for poor image quality caused by low-resolution artwork supplied by the customer.

5. Bleed Requirements

Bleed is the extra artwork area beyond the final cut line.

We recommend:

3mm bleed on all sides

Example:

Finished size:
100mm × 100mm

Artwork size:
106mm × 106mm

This allows for accurate cutting during production.

6. Safe Area

Important text, logos and design elements should be kept away from cutting edges.

Recommended safe area:

3–5mm inside the final cut line

This helps prevent important design elements from being trimmed.

7. Fonts

All fonts should be:

  • converted to outlines;
    or
  • embedded correctly in the PDF.

This prevents:

  • missing fonts;
  • incorrect font substitution;
  • unexpected text changes.

8. Lines and Small Details

For best results:

Avoid extremely thin lines.

Recommended minimum line thickness:

  • 0.25pt for standard printing;
  • thicker lines for textured materials or special finishes.

9. White Ink and Special Effects

For products requiring:

  • white ink;
  • foil;
  • embossing;
  • debossing;
  • spot UV;
  • special finishes;

additional artwork preparation may be required.

Separate layers or files may be requested.

10. Packaging Templates & Dielines

For custom boxes and packaging:

Artwork should follow the supplied dieline/template.

Please ensure:

  • artwork is aligned correctly;
  • fold areas are considered;
  • glue areas remain clear;
  • important content avoids folds and edges.

11. Product Size Confirmation

Customers are responsible for confirming:

  • box dimensions;
  • product fit;
  • internal measurements;
  • external measurements.

Printie can assist with recommendations, but final approval remains the customer's responsibility.

12. Artwork Approval

Before production:

Customers may receive a digital proof or confirmation.

By approving artwork, the customer confirms:

  • spelling is correct;
  • colours are acceptable;
  • dimensions are correct;
  • design placement is approved.

After approval, changes may not be possible without additional costs.

13. File Upload Security

Customers confirm that uploaded files:

  • belong to them or are authorised for use;
  • do not infringe third-party rights;
  • comply with applicable laws.

Printie does not accept responsibility for unauthorised use of customer artwork.

14. Artwork Corrections

If artwork requires adjustments, Printie may contact the customer.

Additional charges may apply for:

  • design changes;
  • file preparation;
  • artwork recreation;
  • complex modifications.

15. Print Quality Expectations

Commercial printing naturally involves minor variations.

Possible variations include:

  • colour differences;
  • slight positioning differences;
  • cutting tolerances;
  • material variations.

These are considered normal manufacturing characteristics.

16. Need Help?
